Geothermal Engineering

The Geothermal Expertise Group is a combination of several areas of expertise and is under the auspices of the ITB Geothermal Engineering Masters Study Program. The strategic objective of this expertise group is “Preparing students to become members of society who have the ability to apply and develop geothermal science and technology so that graduates are able to contribute positively to geothermal exploration, exploitation and utilization activities to increase the availability of clean, environmentally friendly and sustainable national energy”.

The science developed in the Geothermal Expertise Group is engineering and exploration education which includes:

  1. The field of geothermal exploration includes the fields of geological exploration, geophysics and geothermal geochemistry.
The field of geothermal engineering includes geothermal exploitation and utilization techniques, namely drilling techniques,
  2. reservoir techniques, production techniques, electricity conversion techniques (power plants) and direct utilization of geothermal fluids.
  3. Environmental analysis, management and economics, feasibility analysis/evaluation of geothermal prospects, research methodology, volcanology, geothermal geoscience technology, gas geochemistry, remote sensing, alteration and reservoir simulation.

The arrangement of the syllabus and teaching and learning process in the Geothermal KK is directed at:

  1. Continuing education or development in their professional life.
  2. Increasing students’ insight for in-depth study of the material.
  3. Developing students’ creativity.

Development of the material before the curriculum period.
With that, it is expected that graduates have superior abilities in applying the results of their education in industry, government, consulting companies, educational and research institutions, and can become practitioners and innovators who succeed in solving problems in the fields of exploration, exploitation, utilization and management of geothermal resources.
